Selecting good media has many benefits including long shelf life and acceptable PowerFile operation requirements (See the other section on the Importance of good media). This topic is designed to talk about the importance of good media for long shelf life.
Not all media quality is the same. There have been many studies on the quality of DVD Media and its life expectancy. High quality media is said to last from 25 to 100 years. Poor quality media is said to have no life expectancy and may not have even burned correctly. If you plan on holding onto that data for a while, you should read up on the various manufacturers and DO NOT BUY from distributors like GQ and WinData.
In addition the burn speed plays an important factor on the number of burn failures and read errors on a CD/DVD. Many pressed manufacturers use the slowest burn possible to ensure less coasters and less disk failures in customer hands. For DVD we recommend no faster then 4X burns.
